India took a major step in advancing its air combat capabilities with the unveiling of the full-scale engineering model of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) at Aero India 2025 in Bengaluru. Developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), the AMCA is India’s first indigenous fifth-generation stealth fighter, designed to enhance the operational strength of the Indian Air Force (IAF).
The AMCA is a twin-engine, multi-role stealth aircraft with a takeoff weight of 25 tons, making it one of the most advanced fighter jets in its category. It features state-of-the-art technologies, including an AI-powered Electronic Pilot for advanced decision-making, Netcentric Warfare Systems for real-time combat coordination, and an Internal Weapon Bay to enhance stealth. The aircraft also includes an Integrated Vehicle Health Management system for predictive maintenance.
A key highlight of the AMCA is its deep integration of artificial intelligence (AI). The AI-powered Electronic Pilot will assist pilots in combat situations by improving situational awareness, automatically identifying threats, and enabling seamless coordination with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). These advancements position the AMCA among the world’s leading next-generation fighter jets.
Aero India 2025 is witnessing significant global participation, with the United States displaying its advanced fighter jets, including the F-16 and F-35, alongside the KC-135 Stratotanker and B-1 bomber. More than two dozen American companies are exploring defence collaborations with Indian counterparts, highlighting the growing US-India defence partnership.
Senior US officials, including US Embassy Chargé d'Affaires Jorgan Andrews and General Kevin Schneider, Commander of the US Pacific Air Forces, are leading discussions on enhancing defence cooperation. General Schneider emphasized that events like Aero India help improve compatibility and interoperability between allied nations.
Adding to the event’s appeal, the United States Air Force Band of the Pacific’s 10-member ensemble, Final Approach, will perform at Aero India on February 13 and 14, along with a special concert at Christ University in Bengaluru. With India showcasing its AMCA fighter jet, the event highlights the country’s growing influence in next-generation air combat technology.
